PAINTBALL STATION
Advice on Winter Paintball
Cold wet weather has an effect on Paintball guns.
Some guns run on CO2 which is dry ice in its gaseous state. The guns tend to "freeze up" when fired rapidly. Depending on conditions the CO2 can shrink the O-rings in the guns and leaks are likely. The CO2 passing the 0-rings actually form ice on the metal surfaces causing the gun to "freeze" or auto fire. Many people mistakenly believe they're out of CO2 when a gun is jammed with ice which interferes with the normal smooth operation of the mechanism that recocks the marker for the next shot.
Another problem is water. Paintballs easily absorb water. One drop in the chamber will soon be absorbed in the ball and it frequently will explode when fired. If possible, keep the gun and paint in your car between games. Dry off the gun if it gets wet.
Personal comfort is a must. When your feet get wet and cold, so are you. If you lack Gortex boots, a great trick is to wear plastic grocery bags over your sox, inside your shoes. No one will know and it works great.
All rental masks come with defogging wax applied. Defogging wax is also available for sale.
Less experienced players tend to over dress. Too much clothing will make you over heat and miserable. You will not get cold if you stay dry, so dress for dryness!
